The Way Onward curriculum has been designed for peers and professionals in the behavioral health workforce — including mental health counselors, peer support specialists, behavioral health integrationists, recovery coaches, social workers, and therapists — who work with clients through personal transformation and recovery.

If you work with individuals in recovery, getting started with The Way Onward is as simple as signing up for one of our Certified Navigator Training events.

To become a Certified Navigator of The Way Onward — including The Leadership Challenge® Self Empowered™ plus our exclusive enhancements for mental health and recovery professionals — you’ll need to attend a training led by a Certified Master Facilitator. Self-guided completion does not meet The Way Onward’s certification requirements.

The Way Onward’s Certified Navigator Training is a two-day interactive experience, with events held in-person and virtually. See an overview of the agenda here and visit the Events Page for a description of the training.

The Way Onward presents self-empowered leadership as a universal pathway to recovery within a behavioral health setting — appropriate for anyone ready to lead themselves away from what no longer serves them and onward to an aligned life.

Access to the curriculum is included in your training registration. You’ll be able to revisit the materials for free through 2026 after the training. After that, an optional annual membership is available to maintain access to the most up-to-date curriculum content, receive bonus materials, and learn new techniques for integrating the curriculum into your current practices.

All curriculum and training materials are provided in a digital format during the training that is print-compatible if you prefer a physical copy. You’ll also have ongoing access to them through our member portal after the session.

No special materials are required to join the training. We do, however, recommend bringing something to take notes with, a few business cards to help build connections, and most importantly—a curious mindset, ready to learn and grow.

Absolutely! You’ll receive ongoing email updates with additional resources, and new materials will be added to your member portal throughout the year. Plus, we offer continued professional development opportunities to grow through additional trainings, community events, and virtual meetups to keep you connected and supported.
