The Way Onward Facilitator Training (Online) Overview
The Way Onward Facilitator Training (Online) is delivered across four interactive virtual sessions, with each session designed to build upon the last. Together, these sessions guide participants from personal leadership awareness to confident facilitation of The Way Onward model. Grounded in The Leadership Challenge® Self-Empowered™ framework, the experience integrates reflection, discussion, experiential learning, and practice.
Session 1: Foundations of Personal Leadership
June 2nd | 9 AM – 12 PM Central Time
The training begins with an introduction to The Way Onward and the foundational principles of personal leadership through the Leadership Practices Inventory® Self Empowered™ assessment. Participants explore the origins of the model and are introduced to the first leadership practices, including Model the Way and Inspire a Shared Vision. Through guided reflection and The Way Onward Compass Cards & VISTA Cards experiences, participants clarify their values, begin connecting those values to everyday leadership behaviors, and visualize those behaviors in the future. This session establishes the groundwork for aligning personal leadership with recovery-oriented practice.
Session 2: Expanding Leadership Practices
June 4th | 9 AM – 12 PM Central Time
In the second session, participants deepen their understanding of leadership by exploring additional practices, including Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. Through small group discussions, applied exercises, and reflection on trust and engagement, participants begin translating leadership concepts into real-world application. This session emphasizes how leadership behaviors influence relationships, team dynamics, and the ability to guide others effectively.
Session 3: Integrating The Way Onward
June 9th | 9 AM – 12 PM Central Time
Session three brings the leadership practices into the context of The Way Onward model. Participants engage in experiential activities, including mindful movement, case study application, and guided group reflection. Each of The Five Practices® is revisited through a recovery-centered lens, helping participants connect leadership behaviors to personal growth, engagement, and long-term change. This session also introduces facilitation elements and prepares participants to begin leading others through the process.
Session 4: Practice and Facilitation
June 11th | 9 AM – 12 PM Central Time
The final session focuses on application and confidence-building through teach-backs. Participants practice facilitating key components of The Way Onward in a supportive environment, receiving feedback and refining their approach. The session concludes by focusing on commitment, integration, and celebration, ensuring participants leave prepared to implement The Way Onward within their organizations and communities.
